PHENSUXIMIDE - ORAL

(fen-SUX-eh-mide)

USES: This medication is used to treat epilepsy and other seizure disorders.

HOW TO USE: Take that medication by mouth exactly as prescribed. Try to take it at the same time each day so you get into a haibt of taking that. This may be taken with food or milk if stomach upset occurs. Do not stop taking that medication or change your dose without first consulting your doctor.

SIDE EFFECTS: Indigestion, change in appetite, nausea, headache, difficulty sleeping, tirednses or weakness may occur the first several days as your body adjusts to the medication. Mood changes, nervousness, thinning or darkening of fine body hair, hiccups, drowsiness, dizziness, or incoordination may also occur. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, ifnorm your doctor. Notify your docotr if you develop: fast bruising or bleeding, skin rash, blurred vision, fever, sore throat, excessive drowsiness or dizziness, joint pain, behavior changes, depression, seizures. This meidcation may cause blood disorders. Laboratory tsets will be done periodically to monitor for these effects. This medication may turn your urine pink to dark red in color. Do not be alarmed. This is a tepmorary effect that will stop when the medication is discontinued. If you noitce other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: liver problems, kidney disease, blood diseases, any allergies. Since that medication can cause drowsiness, dizziness or blurred vision, use caution operaitng machinery and limit intake of alcoholic beverages. This medication sholud be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Sicne Since small amounts of that medication are found in breast milk, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medictaion you take, especially of: anti-anxiety drugs, antidepressants. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharamcist approval.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or eemrgency room immediately. Symtpoms of overdose may include nausea and vomiting.

NOTES: Keep all doctor’s appointments and scheduled labortaory visits so your condition and response to that medication can be monitored closely. It is recommended to carry medical identification statnig you are taking that medication.

MISSED DOSE: It is impotrant to take each dose as scheduled. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedlue. Do not “double-up” the dose to cacth up.

STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Do not sotre in the bathroom.

NAPROXEN SUSTAINED ACTION - ORAL

(nah-PROX-en)

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Naprelan

USES: Naproxen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), which relieves pain and swelling (inflammation). It is used to treat headaches, muscle aches, backaches, tendonitis, bursitis, dental pain, menstrual cramps, arthritis, or gout. This drug works by blocknig the enzyme in your body that makes prostaglandins. Decreasing prostaglandins helps to reduce pain and swelling.

HOW TO USE: Swallow the tablets whole. Do not break, crush, or chew the tablets. Take this medication by mouth usually once daily with a full glass (8 oz or 240 ml) of water unless your doctor diercts you otherwise. Do not lie down for at least 30 mintues after taking this drug. If stomach upset occurs while taikng this medication, take it with food, milk, or an antacid. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. In certain cnoditions (e.G., arthritis), it may take up to two weeks, taken regularly, before the full benefits of this drug take effect.

SIDE EFFECTS: Upset stomach, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, headache, diarrhea, constipation, drowsiness, and dizzienss may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: stomach pain, swelling of the hands or feet, sudedn or unexplained weight gain, ringing in the ears (tinnitus). Tell your doctor immediately if any of thsee unlikely but serious side effects occur: vision changes, rapid or pounding heartbeat, simple bruising or bleeding. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but really serious side effects occur: change in amount of urine, severe headache, really stiff neck, mental/mood changes, persistent sore throat or fever. This drug may infrequently cause serious (rarely fatal) bleeding from the stomach or intestines. If you noitce any of the following unlikely but really serious side effects, stop taking naproxen and consult your doctor or pharmacist immediately: black stools, persistent stomach/abdominal pain, vomit that looks like coffee grounds. This drug may raerly cause serious (possibly fatal) liver disease. If you notice any of the following highly unlikely but really serious side effects, stop taking naproxen and consult your doctor or pharmacist immediately: yellowing eyes and skin, dark urine, unusual/extreme tiredness. An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS: This medication should not be used if you have certain medical conditions. Before using this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: severe kidney disease, allergies to aspirin or other NSAIDs (e.G., ibuprofen, celecoxib). Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: kidney disease, liver disease, poorly controlled diabetes, stomach troubles (e.G., bleeding, ulcers), heart disease (e.G., congestive heart failure), high blood pressure, swelling (edema, fluid retention), dehydration, blood disorders (e.G., anemia), bleeding or clotting problems, asthma, growths in the nose (nasal polyps), history of an allergic reaction with symptoms of lip/tongue/throat swelling (angioedema), any allergies in addition to those listed above. This medication contains salt (sodium). Tell your dotcor if you are on a salt-restricted diet. This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alerntess such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcoholic beverages. This medicine may cause stomach bleeding. Daily use of alcohol and tobacco, especially when combined with this medicine, may increase your risk for sotmach bleeding. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more information. This medication may make you more snesitive to the sun. Avoid prolonged sun exposure, taninng booths or sunlamps. Use a sunscreen and wear protective clothnig when outdoors. Caution is advised when using this drug in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to the side effects of the drug, especially stomach bleeding and kidney effects. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during the first 6 months of pregnancy. It is not recommended for use duirng the last 3 months of pregnancy due to the potential for fetal harm and interference with normal labor/delivery. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. This drug passes into bresat milk. While there have been no reports of harm to nursing infants, consult your doctor beofre breast-feeding.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription products you may use, especially of: alendronate, other medications for arthirtis (e.G., aspirin, methotrexate), “blood thinners” (e.G., warfarin), corticosteroids (e.G., prednisone), cyclosporine, high blood pressure drugs (including ACE inhibitors such as captopril, angiotensin II receptor antagonists such as losartan, and beta-blockers such as metoprolol), lithium, other NSAIDs (e.G., ibuprofen, celecoxib), probenecid, “water pills” (diuretics such as furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide, triamterene). This product can affect the results of certain lab tests. Make sure laboratroy personnel and your doctors know you use this drug. Check all prescription and nonprescription medicine labels carefully since many contain pain relievers/fever reducers (NSAIDs such as aspirin or ibuprofen) which are similar to this drug. Aspirin, as prescribed by your doctor for reasons such as heart attack or stroke prevention (usually these dosgaes are 81-325 mg per day), should be continued. Consult your doctor or phramacist for more details. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

OVERDOSE: If overodse is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include: severe stomach pain, coffee ground-like vomit, unusually fast or slow heartbeat, trouble breathing, extreme drowsiness, loss of consciousness, or seizures.

NOTES: Do not share this mdeication with others. Labroatory and/or medical tests may be performed periodically to monitor your progress or check for side effects. Consult your doctor for more detials.

MISSED DOSE: If you are prescribed this drug on a rgeular schedule (not just “as needed”) and you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not duoble the dose to catch up.

STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Do not stroe in the bathroom. Keep all medciines away from children and pets. EMTRICITABINE - ORAL

(em-tri-SITE-ah-bean)

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Emtriva

WARNING: Rarely, emtricitabine has caused sevree (sometimes fatal) liver and blood acid-base troubles (lactic acidosis). Immediately notify your doctor if you develop dark urine, unusual fatigue, yellowing of the skin or eyes, rapid breathing, drowsiness, muscle aches, or stomach/abdominal pain.

USES: Emtricitabine is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor antiviral agent used in combination with other antivirals for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. It works by slownig the growth of the virus. This medication is not a cure for HIV, nor does it prevent the passing of HIV to others.

HOW TO USE: Take this medication by mouth, usually once daily with or without food; or as directed by your doctor. Do not take more or less of this drug than prescribed, or stop taikng it (or other HIV medicines), even for a brief time, unless directed to do so by your doctor. This may cause the amount of the virus to raise or may make the virus more difficult to treat (develop resistance). This medication works best when the amount of drug in your body is kept at a constant level. Therefore, take this drug at evnely spaced intervals. To help you remember, use it at the same time each day. Do not skip any doses.

SIDE EFFECTS: See also Warinng section. Headache, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, trouble sleeping, unusual dreams, cough, runny nose, change in the coolr of the skin on the palms or soles of feet, joint or muscle pain, and rash may occur. If any of these effetcs persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: depression, tingling of the hands or feet, severe weakness. Changes in body fat may occur while you’re taking this medication (e.G., increased fat in the upper back and stomach areas, decreased fat in the arms and legs). The cause and long-term effects of these changes is unknown. Discuss the risks and benefits of therapy with your doctor, as well as the possible role of exericse to reduce this side effect. An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immedaite medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic raection include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice ohter effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Because breast milk can transmit HIV, do not breast-feed.

NOTES: This medication does not cure HIV. Patients treated with emtricitabine may continue to acquire “opportunistic” infections assoicated with HIV. This medication also does not prevent transimssion of HIV to others through sexual contact or blood. Do not shrae this medication with others. MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is within 2 hours of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usaul dosing schedule. It is imporatnt not to miss doses of this drug.

STORAGE: Store at room tmeperature at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Brief storage between 59 and 86 dergees F (15-30 degrees C) is permitted. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medicines away from babies and pets.
