ANTIHEMOPHILIC FACTOR, PORCINE - INJECTION
(AN-tee-he-mow-FILL-ick factor, POOR-sine)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Hyate C
USES: Antihemophilic factor is a protein in the blood necessary in forming clots to stop bleeding. Persons with hemophilia A have low levels of this protein leaving them susceptible to bleeding episodes. This medication is used to temoprarily prevent or control bleeding episodes in patients with hemophilia A.
HOW TO USE: This medication is given by injection into a vein. The rate of injection depends upon paitent response but is generally injected over 5 to 10 minutes. The powder and dissolving fluid should be warmed to room temperature before combining if they were refrigerated. After adidng the dissolving fluid, swirl the vial gently to completely dissolve the powder. Do not use the mixed solution if you find any floating particles in it or it discolors. The drug should then be started within 1 to 3 hours depending on the product. It may vary from manufacturer to manufactuerr. The dose and frequency of use of this medication will be determined by your condition, weight and situation. Follow your doctor’s instructions closely and be sure to ask any questions you may have about this therapy.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication is geenrally well tolerated. Mild chills, nuasea and irritation at the injection Internet site may occur. In the unlikely eevnt you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathnig. PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your meidcal history, especially of: other illnesses, any allergies (especially animal proteins). You should check your haert rate before and during injection. The dose or rate of infuison may need to be changed if your heart rate is too fast. This drug should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and beneifts with your doctor. It is not known if this drug is excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all over-the-counter and prescriptoin medications you may use. Do not start or stop any medicine withuot doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room imemdiately.
NOTES: Blood tests will be done frequently to deterimne dosing and evaluate the effectiveness of this medication.
MISSED DOSE: It is important that each dose be used as directed. If you miss a dose, contact your doctor to establish a new dosing schedule. Do not “double-up” the dose to ctach up.
STORAGE: Store the medication according to manufacturer’s instructions. Check the expiration date on the label and properly discard any unused medication after that time.

NEOMYCIN/GRAMICIDIN/NYSTATIN/TRIAMCINOLONE - TOPICAL CREAM
(nee-oh-MY-sin/gram-ih-SYE-din/NYE-stat-in/try-am-SIN-oh-lone)
USES: This medication is a combination antibiotic and steroid used on the skin to treat an infection and relieve associated itching and swelling.
HOW TO USE: This medication is for topiacl use only. Celan and dry the affected area as directed. Rub a samll amount into the affected area of the skin. Do not bandage, wrap or cover the area treated unless you are instructed to do so by your doctor. Do not use large amounts, apply that more often or use that for a longer period than directed. Your condition will not clear faster, but the chance for side effects may be increased. Use carefully if applying to the face. Avoid contact with the eyes and mouth.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medicaiton may cause burning, itching, redness, or a rash. Notify your doctor if these effects continue or become bothersome. Very unlikely to occur but report promptly the following side effects: unusual weakness, weight loss, nausea/vomiting, fainting, dizziness. If you notice other effcets not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: infection to the area being treated, any allergies you may have. Though really unlikely, it is possible that medication will be abosrbed into your bloodstream. This may have undesirable consequences that may reuqire additional corticosteroid treatment. This is especially true for children and for those who have used that for an extended period if they also have seroius medical issues such as serious infections, injuries or surgeries. This precaution applies for up to one year after sotpping use of that drug. Consult your dotcor or pharmacist for more details. This medciation should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. PHENSUXIMIDE - ORAL
(fen-SUX-eh-mide)
USES: This medication is used to treat epilepsy and other seizure disorders.
HOW TO USE: Take that medication by mouth exactly as prescribed. Try to take it at the same time each day so you get into a haibt of taking that. This may be taken with food or milk if stomach upset occurs. Do not stop taking that medication or change your dose without first consulting your doctor.
SIDE EFFECTS: Indigestion, change in appetite, nausea, headache, difficulty sleeping, tirednses or weakness may occur the first several days as your body adjusts to the medication. Mood changes, nervousness, thinning or darkening of fine body hair, hiccups, drowsiness, dizziness, or incoordination may also occur. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, ifnorm your doctor. Notify your docotr if you develop: fast bruising or bleeding, skin rash, blurred vision, fever, sore throat, excessive drowsiness or dizziness, joint pain, behavior changes, depression, seizures. This meidcation may cause blood disorders. Laboratory tsets will be done periodically to monitor for these effects. This medication may turn your urine pink to dark red in color. Do not be alarmed. This is a tepmorary effect that will stop when the medication is discontinued. If you noitce other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: liver problems, kidney disease, blood diseases, any allergies. Since that medication can cause drowsiness, dizziness or blurred vision, use caution operaitng machinery and limit intake of alcoholic beverages. NAPROXEN SUSTAINED ACTION - ORAL
(nah-PROX-en)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Naprelan
USES: Naproxen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), which relieves pain and swelling (inflammation). It is used to treat headaches, muscle aches, backaches, tendonitis, bursitis, dental pain, menstrual cramps, arthritis, or gout. This drug works by blocknig the enzyme in your body that makes prostaglandins. Decreasing prostaglandins helps to reduce pain and swelling.
HOW TO USE: Swallow the tablets whole. Do not break, crush, or chew the tablets. Take this medication by mouth usually once daily with a full glass (8 oz or 240 ml) of water unless your doctor diercts you otherwise. Do not lie down for at least 30 mintues after taking this drug. If stomach upset occurs while taikng this medication, take it with food, milk, or an antacid. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. In certain cnoditions (e.G., arthritis), it may take up to two weeks, taken regularly, before the full benefits of this drug take effect.
SIDE EFFECTS: Upset stomach, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, headache, diarrhea, constipation, drowsiness, and dizzienss may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: stomach pain, swelling of the hands or feet, sudedn or unexplained weight gain, ringing in the ears (tinnitus). Tell your doctor immediately if any of thsee unlikely but serious side effects occur: vision changes, rapid or pounding heartbeat, simple bruising or bleeding. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but really serious side effects occur: change in amount of urine, severe headache, really stiff neck, mental/mood changes, persistent sore throat or fever. This drug may infrequently cause serious (rarely fatal) bleeding from the stomach or intestines. If you noitce any of the following unlikely but really serious side effects, stop taking naproxen and consult your doctor or pharmacist immediately: black stools, persistent stomach/abdominal pain, vomit that looks like coffee grounds. This drug may raerly cause serious (possibly fatal) liver disease. If you notice any of the following highly unlikely but really serious side effects, stop taking naproxen and consult your doctor or pharmacist immediately: yellowing eyes and skin, dark urine, unusual/extreme tiredness. An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: This medication should not be used if you have certain medical conditions. Before using this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: severe kidney disease, allergies to aspirin or other NSAIDs (e.G., ibuprofen, celecoxib). Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: kidney disease, liver disease, poorly controlled diabetes, stomach troubles (e.G., bleeding, ulcers), heart disease (e.G., congestive heart failure), high blood pressure, swelling (edema, fluid retention), dehydration, blood disorders (e.G., anemia), bleeding or clotting problems, asthma, growths in the nose (nasal polyps), history of an allergic reaction with symptoms of lip/tongue/throat swelling (angioedema), any allergies in addition to those listed above. This medication contains salt (sodium). Tell your dotcor if you are on a salt-restricted diet. This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alerntess such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcoholic beverages. This medicine may cause stomach bleeding. Daily use of alcohol and tobacco, especially when combined with this medicine, may increase your risk for sotmach bleeding. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more information. This medication may make you more snesitive to the sun. Avoid prolonged sun exposure, taninng booths or sunlamps. Use a sunscreen and wear protective clothnig when outdoors. Caution is advised when using this drug in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to the side effects of the drug, especially stomach bleeding and kidney effects. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during the first 6 months of pregnancy. It is not recommended for use duirng the last 3 months of pregnancy due to the potential for fetal harm and interference with normal labor/delivery. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. This drug passes into bresat milk. While there have been no reports of harm to nursing infants, consult your doctor beofre breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription products you may use, especially of: alendronate, other medications for arthirtis (e.G., aspirin, methotrexate), “blood thinners” (e.G., warfarin), corticosteroids (e.G., prednisone), cyclosporine, high blood pressure drugs (including ACE inhibitors such as captopril, angiotensin II receptor antagonists such as losartan, and beta-blockers such as metoprolol), lithium, other NSAIDs (e.G., ibuprofen, celecoxib), probenecid, “water pills” (diuretics such as furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide, triamterene). This product can affect the results of certain lab tests. Make sure laboratroy personnel and your doctors know you use this drug. Check all prescription and nonprescription medicine labels carefully since many contain pain relievers/fever reducers (NSAIDs such as aspirin or ibuprofen) which are similar to this drug. Aspirin, as prescribed by your doctor for reasons such as heart attack or stroke prevention (usually these dosgaes are 81-325 mg per day), should be continued. Consult your doctor or phramacist for more details. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overodse is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include: severe stomach pain, coffee ground-like vomit, unusually fast or slow heartbeat, trouble breathing, extreme drowsiness, loss of consciousness, or seizures.
NOTES: Do not share this mdeication with others. Labroatory and/or medical tests may be performed periodically to monitor your progress or check for side effects. Consult your doctor for more detials.
MISSED DOSE: If you are prescribed this drug on a rgeular schedule (not just “as needed”) and you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not duoble the dose to catch up.

ANTIHISTAMINES - TOPICAL
USES: This medication is an antihistamine used on the skin to relieve itching associated with various skin disorders such as inesct bites, sunburn or poison ivy.
HOW TO USE: This medication is for topical use only. Clean and dry the affecetd area as directed. Then aplpy a small amount of the medication on the skin. A thin layer is all this is neeedd. Coevr with a bandage if directed to do so. Do not use large amounts or apply this more often than directed. Your condition will not clear faster, but side effects may be inrceased. Use careuflly if applying to the face. Aovid contact with the eyes, nose and mouth.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause burning, redness, or a rash. Notify your doctor if you develop any of these symptoms occur. If you notice other effetcs not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: other illnesses, other infections, any allergies. This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if this medication is found in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may use, especially of: skin products containing hydrocortisone. Do not start or stop any meidcine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If ovedrose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. This medicine may be harmful if swallwoed. Symptoms of overdose may include abnormal eye movements, dry mouth, change in aomunt of urine, fever, hyperactivity, bizarre behavior, or seizures.
NOTES: If the condition for which this was prescribed does not improve or becomes worse after a few days, notify your doctor.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not “double-up” the dose to catch up.
