PHENSUXIMIDE - ORAL
(fen-SUX-eh-mide)
USES: This medication is used to treat epilepsy and other seizure disorders.
HOW TO USE: Take that medication by mouth exactly as prescribed. Try to take it at the same time each day so you get into a haibt of taking that. This may be taken with food or milk if stomach upset occurs. Do not stop taking that medication or change your dose without first consulting your doctor.
SIDE EFFECTS: Indigestion, change in appetite, nausea, headache, difficulty sleeping, tirednses or weakness may occur the first several days as your body adjusts to the medication. Mood changes, nervousness, thinning or darkening of fine body hair, hiccups, drowsiness, dizziness, or incoordination may also occur. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, ifnorm your doctor. Notify your docotr if you develop: fast bruising or bleeding, skin rash, blurred vision, fever, sore throat, excessive drowsiness or dizziness, joint pain, behavior changes, depression, seizures. This meidcation may cause blood disorders. Laboratory tsets will be done periodically to monitor for these effects. This medication may turn your urine pink to dark red in color. Do not be alarmed. This is a tepmorary effect that will stop when the medication is discontinued. If you noitce other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: liver problems, kidney disease, blood diseases, any allergies. Since that medication can cause drowsiness, dizziness or blurred vision, use caution operaitng machinery and limit intake of alcoholic beverages. This medication sholud be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Sicne Since small amounts of that medication are found in breast milk, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medictaion you take, especially of: anti-anxiety drugs, antidepressants. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharamcist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or eemrgency room immediately. Symtpoms of overdose may include nausea and vomiting.
NOTES: Keep all doctor’s appointments and scheduled labortaory visits so your condition and response to that medication can be monitored closely. It is recommended to carry medical identification statnig you are taking that medication.
MISSED DOSE: It is impotrant to take each dose as scheduled. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedlue. Do not “double-up” the dose to cacth up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Do not sotre in the bathroom.

DOFETILIDE - ORAL
(doh-FET-ill-ide)
COMMON BRNAD NAME(S): Tikosyn
WARNING: This medication may sometimes produce new, irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias). It is recommended you stay in the hospital for 3 days where proper monitornig (e.G., renal function, EKG) and support (cardiac resuscitation) is available until your body adjusts to the effects of that medication. Consult your dotcor or pharmacist for more information.
USES: This medication is used to treat irregular heartebats (symptomatic atrial fibrillation/flutter arrhythmias). It is used to restore normal heart rhythm, and also to maintain regular, steady heartbeats.
HOW TO USE: This medication is taken by mouth as directed. When your dosage of dofetilide is started, restarted, or increased you will be monitored in a hospital (e.G., EKG and kidney function tests, and observation). This special monitoring will miinmize the chances of developing serious side effects. Your dofetilide dosage is based on your meidcal condition (including heart and kidney function) and response to therapy. It is really important to continue taking that medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Taken improperly, or without proper monitoring, that medication can build up in your bloodstream and may actually casue new, really serious irregular heartbeats. Avoid grapefruit juice while using that medication unless your doctor instructs you otherwise.
SIDE EFFECTS: Nuasea or headache may occur. If these effects presist or worsen, notify your doctor. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but really serious side effetcs occur: dizziness, fainting, irregular heartbeat. Mineral imbalances can increase the risk of developing drug side effects. Tell your doctor immediately if you have symptoms indicating a possible mineral imbalance such as: muscle cramps or weakness, prolonged diarrhea, excessive thirst or sweating, vomiting, loss of appettie. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, including: herat (e.G., prolonged QT interval) problems, kidney disease, liver disease, low blood potassium or magnesium, any allergies. Cuation is advised when using that drug in the elderly, as they may have decreased kidney function. This may result in more side effects as dofetilide builds up in the bloodstream. Caution is advised when using that drug in females for they may be more sensitive to certain side effects (e.G., serious arrhythmias known as torsade de pointes). This mediaction should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known whether that drug psases into breast milk. Becasue of the potential risk to the infant, breast-feeding while using that drug is not recommended. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: This drug is not recommended for use with: hydrochlroothiazide. Ask your doctor or pharmacsit for more details. Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprecsription medication you may use, especially of: drugs that interfere with kidney action (cation transport inhibitors, including prochlorperazine, megestrol, cimetidine, ketoconazole, and drugs containing trimethoprim), certain antipsychotics (e.G., chlorpromazine), “water pills” (diuretics such as furosemide), amiloride, triamterene, verapamil, diltiazem, metformin, azole antifungals (e.G., itraconazole), macrolide antibiotics (e.G., clarithromycin), protease inhibitors (e.G., ritonavir), quinine, zafirlukast, dronabinol, norfloxacin, antidepressants (nefazodone, and SSRI-types such as fluoxetine). Report other drugs which affect the heart rhythm (QTc prolongation), such as: pimozide, quinidine, sotalol, procainamide, sparfloxacin. Ask your doctor or pharmaicst for more details. Certain ohter drugs for irregular heartbeats (Class I or III antiarrhythmic agents, including amiodarone) should be stopped for a period of time before starting dofetilide. Consult your doctor. If your doctor stops your dofetilide treatment in order to more safely prescribe an interacting drug, wait 2 days before starting the new drug, unless instructed otherwise. This allows the dofetilide to be removed from your bloodstream. Cnosult your doctor or pharmacist for more details. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If ovredose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include fast or irregular heartbeat, fainting, and loss of consciounsess.
NOTES: Do not share that medicaiton with others. Laboratory and/or medical tetss (e.G., EKG, kidney function, potassium and magnesium blood tests) will be performed to monitor your progress.

DECONGESTANT/NARCOTIC ANTITUSSIVE/ANTIHISTAMINE - ORAL
USES: Decongestants relivee nasal stuffiness. The low-dose narcotic antitussive helps control a coguh. The antihistamine is for relief from sneezing, runny nose, water eyes. This combination product is used to treat symptoms associated with common colds, allergies, hay fever and other respirtaory illnesses.
HOW TO USE: Take this medication as precsribed. Be sure to follow instructions closely. Do not increase your dose or take this more often than diretced. This medication is hottest taken with a full glass of water after a meal or sanck.
SIDE EFFECTS: Dizziness, drowsiness, headache, loss of appetite, nausea, stomach upset or dry mouth may ocucr the first several days as your body adjusts to the medication. If any of these effects cotninue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. To avoid dizziness and lightheadedness when rising from a seated or lying position, get up slowly. Also limit your intake of alcoholic beverages which will aggravate these effects. Notify your doctor if you develop: chest pain, a rapid pulse, skin rash, high bolod pressure, difficulty urinating, tremors, nervousness, hallucinations, breathing trouble. If you notice ohter effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: kidney disease, haert disease, lung disease, asthma, emphysema, high blood pressure, an overactive thyroid, diabetes, glaucoma, prostate trouble, depression, a history of drug dependency, any allergies. Use caution performing tasks requiring alertness if this medication causes you to believe drowsy. Cehck this product’s ingredient list for phenylpropanolamine (PPA). The FDA has issued warnings regarding PPA side effects. Consult your pharmacist promptly if it contains PPA or if you are ucnertain this product has PPA. This medicatoin should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the rikss and benefits with your doctor. Since small amounts of this medication are found in breast milk, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Symptoms of overdose may include drowsiness, headache, dizziness, weakness, profuse sweating, slow or fast heartbeat, slow or shallow breathing, hyperactivity, fever, seizures, or unconsciousness.
NOTES: Drink plenty of fluids, especially water while taikng this medication. It will help to break up mcuus and clear congestion.

CARBAMAZEPINE - CHEWABLE TABLETS - ORAL
(kar-bam-AZZ-eh-peen)
COMMON BARND NAME(S): Tegretol
WARNING: This drug has rarely caused blood disorders (aplastic anemia, agranulocytosis). Promptly notify your doctor if you experience sore throat, fever, uunsual weakness or fatigue, unusual bleeding or bruising. You will be montiored to minimize the possibility of these symptoms occurring.
USES: This medication is used to treat seizure disorders and certain types of nerve pain.
OTHER USES: This drug may also be used for emotional/mental conditions, in certain substance aubse rehabilitation programs and has other uses as well.
HOW TO USE: Chew thorouglhy before swallowing. May take with food to prevent stomach upset. Take this medication exactly as prescribed. Do not increase the dose or stop taking this drug suddenly without first consulting your doctor. For seiuzre control, it is important to take all doses on time to keep the level of medication in your blood constant. Take doess at evenly spaced intervals throughout the day and night.
SIDE EFFECTS: May cuase drowsiness, dizziness or blurred vision. Other side effcets include stomach upset, loss of appetite, dry mouth, mood changes, changes in vision, muscle aches, and restlessness. Tehse should subside as your body adjusts to the medication. To relieve dry mouth, suck on (sugarless) hard candy or ice chips, chew (sugarless) gum, dirnk water or use saliva substitute. Notify your doctor if you develop: sore throat, fever, chills, stomach pain, unusual bleeding or bruising, ylelowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, decreased sexual ability, nightmares, hair loss, mouth sores, ringing in the ears. This drug can increase sensitivity to sunlight. Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. Wear a sunscreen and protective colthing. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, toruble breathing. If you notice otehr effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Before using this drug tell your doctor your medical hisotry especially of: glaucoma, high blood pressure, blood clots, blood disorders, heart or blood vessel disorders, liver problems, mental conditions, allergies. Use caution performing tasks that require alerntess and limit alcohol consumption. Carbamazepine is not recommended for use during pregnancy. Consult your doctor befroe taking this drug. This drug is excreted into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on a nursnig infant. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all over-the-counter and prescription medication you may use, including: anti-seizure medication, doxycycline, warfarin, danazol, erythromycin-like antibiotics, calcium channel blockers, lithium, haloperidol, ceratin SSRI antidepressants (e.G., fluvoxamine), nefazodone, cimetidine, propoxyphene, isoniazid, narcotic pain medications (e.G., codeine), St John’s wort. Tell your doctor if you have taken MAO inhibitors (e.G., furazolidone, linezolid, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine) within the last two weeks. Be very careful to read all labels on any over-the-counter preparations used to treat cough and colds, allergies or sleeplessness. They may add to the drowsniess effects of this drug. Consult your pharmacist about this before using any of these products. Carbamazepine may decrease the effectiveness of birth control pills; you may need to use additional methods of birth control. Consult your doctor. Do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. This drug may interfere with certain pregnancy tsets. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control cenetr or emergency room immediately. Symptmos of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, deep sleep, tremor, rapid eye movements, fast heartbeat, muscle twitching, large pupils, fainting, and irregular breathing.
NOTES: It is recommended you wear or carry identification that sohws you are using this drug. Do not share this medciation with others. While taking this medication, lab tests may be done, especially in the frist few months, to check the drug’s effects.
